In 2006, the community Persenbeug-Gottsdorf started the project "Power Plant Tours". It employed a number of committed individuals who were specially trained by the VERBUND for guiding through the Ybbs-Persenbeug power plant. This enabled interested individual guests, who spent their holidays in the region or were passing through, to visit the power plant. Due to the direct location on the Danube Cycle Path, this option was especially accepted by cyclists.
In 2011, Mr. Gerhard Leeb founded the operator association - Donaukraftwerksführungen Ybbs-Persenbeug. Since then, the vice-mayor of Persenbeug-Gottsdorf has been chairman of the association, whose members include the company VERBUND, the municipality of Ybbs on the Danube, the market town of Persenbeug-Gottsdorf, the viadonau and regional companies. Tamara Leeb takes care of the management and the smooth running of the business. She also acts as a contact person for all kinds of questions. Currently 16 guides lead through the visitor power plant.
Over time, the prestige object of the post-war period turned into a true tourist gem, expanding its offerings steadily and extending it to school and tour groups. In addition to the classic adventure tour, the ship lock can now be visited outdoors for several years. In addition, they developed their own leadership concept for schools and a treasure hunt for children. New showrooms and interactive stations were added.
Special highlight: Using a smartphone app and 3D glasses, the power plant can also be virtually explored. Thus, the visitor power plant has become a popular destination for young and old in recent years.
It's best to see for yourself!
